Do our children study in comfort?

The Unlocked.lk team met up with Dr. Novil Wijesekara to discuss his latest research on the comfort levels of students in schools. The research focuses on conditions inside classrooms such as humidity and heat. As we discuss climate resilient urban planning on Unlocked.lk, the research highlighted adds an important perspective on the need to integrate sustainable planning for schools. Dr. WIjesekara is the Senior Registrar in Community Medicine, Disaster Preparedness and Response Division, Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine – Sri Lanka.

The research is co-investigated by Saja A. Majeed – Lecturer, South Eastern University of Sri Lanka and assisted by Thilini Kasthuri.

The project is supported by The preparation of Sri Lanka’s Third National Communication Project implemented by the Climate Change Secretariat of the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment and funded by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) through UNDP Sri Lanka.

Administered through a consortium comprising of The Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI), Janathakshan (GTE) Limited, SLYCAN Trust and Integrated Development Association (IDEA)   

The research team also wished to acknowledge Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Department of Meteorology, Disaster Management Center and UNICEF for the support rendered.
